EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Giants are back and so is Jason Pierre-Paul.Pierre-Paul had 2+ sacks in probably his most dominant performance since mangling his right hand in a fireworks accident on July 4, 2015. The Giants posted their fifth straight win by rallying for a 22-16 decision over the injury-plagued Chicago Bears on a windy Sunday at MetLife Stadium. The winning streak is the longest in the regular season for the Giants (7-3) since 2010. It has them in position to make the playoffs for the first time since 2011. The Bears (2-8) are off to their worst start since 2002.With winless Cleveland on the schedule next weekend, there is no reason for the Giants streak to end. The offense has been coming up with enough plays, and the defense has been nailing the door shut.A concern for opponents is that the line is suddenly starting to get pressure. Olivier Vernon had one of the Giants four sacks and JPP stole the show, his total matching the amount from the eight games he played last season after recovering from his injury.JPP is JPP, man, Vernon said. Aint nothing changed about him. He is still a beast out there. After Eli Manning gave the Giants the lead with third-quarter touchdown passes to Will Tye and Sterling Shepard , the defense finished its second-half shutout. Of course, there was a little excitement. After being limited to two first downs, Jay Cutler drove the Bears to the Giants 30 at the two-minute warning. On first down, Pierre-Paul came around left end and got a strip-sack that cost Chicago 14 yards.I even told some guys that it is time to blow up, it is on us and guys responded, Pierre-Paul said. I responded myself. I cant just do the talking, I have to show up, and we came out with a win, guys. After a procedure penalty, safety Landon Collins iced the game with his fifth interception in the past four games.Anytime you can end the game on a play like that, thats encouraging, coach Ben McAdoo said. Sideline was fired up, we were fired up for Landon, he made a heck of a play.Thats the way its been for the Giants these days, which is a far cry from 6-10 records the team posted the past two years.Every game has been a little different; theyve all been close, theyve all come down to the last series, Manning said. Offense, defense, everybodys stepping up and doing their part to get wins. Here are some things learned in the game:DECIMATED BEARS: The Bears are getting to the point where they are running out of healthy players .Linebacker Leonard Floyd, who leads NFL rookie with five sacks, left the game on a stretcher in the fourth quarter with a neck injury. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation, and was later released and traveled with the team back to Chicago.Tight end Zach Miller also left with a possible broken right foot. Defensive back CreVon LeBlanc is in the concussion protocol and left guard Josh Sitton injured his right ankle.Coming into the game, the Bears were missing right tackle Bobbie Massie (concussion), nose tackle Eddie Goldman (ankle), and defensive end Mitch Unrein (back). Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery served the first game of a four-game suspension for violating the NFLs policy on performance enhancers. Guard Kyle Long was placed on injured reserve last week with ankle and shoulder injuries.MISSED PATS: The crosswind blowing at MetLife Stadium gave kickers Robbie Gould and Connor Barth problems.Gould missed two extra points and Barth missed an extra point and had a 51-yard field goal bounce off the upright. The first one I hit was where I was hitting them in pregame, Gould said. I thought I made it and it went outside the left upright. The second one I just didnt hit a good ball. Today was tough, but I have to make them.RUNNING GIANTS: New York is starting to find a running game. It rushed for 102 yards one week after running for 122 yards in a victory vs. Cincinnati. This is the first time the Giants have had back-to-back 100-yard rushing games since Nov. 30-Dec. 7, 2014 at Jacksonville and Tennessee. Rashad Jennings led the way with 85 yards on 21 carries.BIG MOUTH: Linebacker Pernell McPhee bragged early in the week his defense was going to knock down Manning a few times on Sunday and add to Chicagos sack total of 24.The Giants offensive line shut kept Manning upright. He was not sacked. It was what it was, you put on the film, youll see, McPhee said of the Bears pass rush. I think he `(Manning) did a great job of getting the ball out fast, he did a great job of mixing it up. I think we came in prepared and ready to rush, we just never got him behind the chains.---For more NFL coverage: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFLNike Shoes China . This time, the Gamecocks have seven first-time players to mix into games. So far, so good, Thornwell says. Its been good, he said. Everybody came in focused.South Carolina played a dozen people, 10 of them getting 10 minutes or more. Plan on it being the norm this season, according to South Carolina coach Frank Martin. This team has depth like I havent had since Ive been here, he said. That showed against Holy Cross (0-1), which was eventually worn down by South Carolinas height and athleticism. The Crusaders, who played in the NCAA Tournament last March, used its Princeton-style offense -- coach Bill Carmody used to coach at the Ivy League school -- of cuts and backdoor layups to get within 29-24 on Matt Huseks basket with 7:09 left in the half. Thats when the Gamecocks took off on a 15-5 run over the next six minutes to push its lead to 44-29. Thornwell opened the surge with a basket and closed it with a 3-pointer.We needed that momentum shift, Gamecocks guard PJ Dozier said. The Crusaders never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way.I dont like losing by 30, Carmody said. Its hard to sit here and call it part of process. Our guys hurt after losing this one.Dozier had 15 points for South Carolina, which opened 2-0 for a second straight season and the third time in Martins five years.Robert Champion led Holy Cross with 18 points.BIG PICTUREHoly Cross stunned college basketball last March, winning the Patriot League tournament and earning an automatic NCAA bid despite a 10-19 regular season. The Crusaders went on to a First Four matchup win over Southern for the schhools first Big Dance win since 1953.dddddddddddd Holy Cross will try and build on that success with five of their top six scorers returning from a year ago.South Carolina looked athletic and active in putting away Holy Cross over the final 30 minutes. The trick for coach Frank Martin will be maintaining that level while blending the young players into the mix. Theyll get that chance the next 10 days with three more games, all at home.FELDER DEBUTSouth Carolina guard Rakym Felder saw his first college action, less than a month after he was arrested for assault among other charges. Felder played 14 minutes and finished with eight points, swishing both of his three-point attempts. Martin said he had talked with athletic director Ray Tanner, vouching for Felders character. Ra Felder played because its my decision that he has accepted everything that came his way for his mistake, Martin said.Hes a beautiful kid, not a good kid, a beautiful kid, Martin continued.CHANGING STYLESMartin was concerned that his team would not make the necessary defensive adjustments in going from Louisiana Techs more up-tempo offense to Holy Cross deliberate attack. He neednt have worried. The Gamecocks held Holy Cross under 40-percent shooting for the game and to just 25 percent (5 of 20) from behind the arc.HOT SHOOTINGThe Gamecocks shot 58.7 percent, going 27 of 46 from the field. That touch continued from way outside and at the line: South Carolina made 12 of its 24 3-pointers and 15 of 16 foul shots.UP NEXTHoly Cross travels to play its only other regular-season Power 5 opponent at Syracuse on Tuesday night.South Carolina continues its five-game home stretch to start the season, facing Monmouth on Tuesday night.---Follow Pete Iacobelli at http://twitter.com/PIacobellil-AP---More AP college basketball: http://collegebasketball.ap.org ' ' '
