WALTHAM, Mass. -- Veteran swingman Gerald Green will make the Celtics roster, and Bostons decision on who will earn the final roster spot will come down to former first-round picks James Young and R.J. Hunter, according to president of basketball operations Danny Ainge. The Celtics trimmed their overstocked roster to 16 on Friday by releasing second-round draft pick Ben Bentil, who had a $250,000 guarantee.Boston must still drop one more player before the start of the regular season, and Ainge told ESPN that Green is safe as the team continues to explore possible deals that might allow them to recoup an asset while dropping the roster to the regular-season limit of 15 players. The Celtics would prefer to trade Hunter or Young to either avoid eating salary or bring back a draft pick. The trouble there is that teams know the Celtics are in a bind and are unlikely to offer much knowing one of those players will simply become available next week.Ainge said the decision on the final roster spot likely wont occur until Monday. While neither Hunter nor Young played well enough to ensure their spot this preseason, both have made the sort of encouraging strides that make the final decision tough for Ainge.I just think that sometimes the decision is made for you -- its really easy. And this year it hasnt been that way, Ainge said. Its been very challenging. Both of those guys have had some outstanding moments in practice, training camp and in games. So its been challenging. The Celtics knew this would happen when they built their draft-pick surplus and dont mind the competition it has promoted at the back end of the roster.Green, the oldest player on Bostons roster at 30 years old, said Friday he had not been formally told he had made the team and said he was still trying to prove himself after missing time at the start of camp with a hip flexor injury. The Celtics started their roster trim-down Thursday by releasing camp invites Marcus Georges-Hunt, Damion Lee and Jalen Jones. All three players are expected to land with the teams D-League affiliate in Maine. While many expected Bentil to shuffle north as well, Ainge said he expects Bentil to explore other opportunities. Central Coast coach Paul Okon has declared that as one of the championship favourites, Sydney FC carry the burden of pressure going into Saturdays A-League meeting against his new-look Mariners.Despite Okon admitting team confidence was sky high on the back of the Mariners dramatic three-goal comeback against Perth last weekend, he was happy to point out that the Sky Blues 4-0 Sydney derby win brought with it a level of expectation, especially when facing last seasons wooden-spooners.In his maiden campaign in charge, Okon was more than happy for his unfancied side to fly under the radar. The pressure is not on us, the former Young Socceroos mentor said.No one really rates the Mariners, no one thinks the Mariners are any good.So we will travel to Sydney with confidence, well play our football the way we want to play, and once the whistle goes at the end of the game, see where were at.Okon and Sydney coach Graham Arnolds relationship stretches back to their days playing together for the Socceroos, and on different teams in the NSL and Belgium. It will be the first time the pair have coached against each other, though their exchanges in the lead-up have contained more pleasantries than Arnolds famed pre-match wind-ups.There hasnt been any taunting each other orr trying to see whos more nervous, Okon said.ddddddddddddIts all about everyone looking forward to the contest and preparing their own team.Former Sydney FC player Jacques Faty will be lucky to retain his starting spot after contributing to all Glorys three goals last weekend.Central Coast will also hope to have winger Fabio Ferreira (calf) back, though his replacement for the match against Glory, Trent Buhagier, was in sterling form flanking brace-scorer Roy ODonovan in tandem with left winger Connor Pain.Okon hadnt yet made a call on Ferreira on Friday, who is still regaining fitness.Whether he starts the game or comes off the bench, or just misses out because of what were looking for further on in the season is still yet to be decided, he said.We want to make sure that whichever starting XI goes out there we have everyone at 200 per cent.STATS THAT MATTER:* Central Coast are without a win in six A-League matches against Sydney (D1 L5)* The Mariners have not won in 11 matches since defeating Wellington in January* Sydney have won back-to-back matches and scored four goals in each, having previously gone winless in 11 attempts ' ' '
