Sam Bradford goes back to Philadelphia on Sunday for the first time since the Eagles traded him to the Minnesota Vikings, and he is bringing all of his knowledge of rookie starter Carson Wentz and the offensive system of first-year coach Doug Pederson. The Vikings (5-0) are on top of the NFC and Bradford has won all four of his starts since replacing Shaun Hill under center in Week 2. Bradford landed on his feet and said he has recovered from the ego bruising that comes from being traded for the second time in three years. The Eagles decided to hitch their wagon to Wentz, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 draft, and pulled the trigger on a deal that brought a first-round pick in 2017 in return. You could tell early on, he wants to be great, Bradford said of Wentz. I think it showed up on the field. While Wentz is winning, Pederson said Wednesday his plan was to fully redshirt Wentz in 2016, using Bradford as his No. 1 quarterback and backup Chase Daniel in case of emergency. The No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft, Jared Goff of the Los Angeles Rams, has not yet played this season. My plan was for him to sit the whole year, Pederson said. That changed when general manager Rick Spielman and the Vikings front office collectively signed off on forfeiting multiple picks, including the first-rounder next April, for Bradford. The Eagles had declared Bradford off the market publicly after signing him to a two-year, $35 million contract. But Bradford asked for a trade when Wentz was drafted and only relented when it became evident he wasnt moving despite tepid interest from Denver and the New York Jets.Initially, I was a little shocked (the trade) was going to be a possibility, Pederson said. The Sept. 3 trade also netted the Eagles a conditional fourth-round pick in 2018.Defending Wentz, who has completed 65 percent of his passes for 1,186 yards, seven touchdowns and just one interception with a passer rating of 99.9, might be easier for Pederson than protecting him. With right tackle Lane Johnson starting a 10-game suspension, the Redskins attacked rookie replacement Halapoulivaati Vaitai with a variety of blitzes and twice outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan beat him on pure effort for sacks of Wentz. The Vikings have 19 sacks and lead the NFL with a plus-11 turnover differential. But Pederson, who rarely used a tight end to help Vaitai last week, said the Eagles will make adjustments and Vaitai will be better. Was it perfect? Was it pretty? No. Were there assignment errors? Yes, Pederson said. And Im not going to stand here and point the finger at Big V because thats not what happened. There were enough mistakes all around in this football game that cost us this game. The Vikings are one of the leagues biggest surprises. Not because Bradford is off to a great start -- six touchdowns and zero interceptions, a 70.4 completion percentage and 109.8 passer rating -- but because personnel issues have caused a weekly juggling act by coach Mike Zimmer and Spielman. With 10 players on injured reserve, including starters Teddy Bridgewater, Adrian Peterson and Ryan Kalil, the offense has been functional even when leading receiver Stefon Diggs was unavailable for Week 5.We still have a long season left, Spielman said. I would say were pretty happy with the retuns weve got at this point.Credit goes beyond the adjustments made to the roster since the start of the season for the Vikings.Minnesota leads the NFL in defense, allowing 12.6 points per game, thanks to heavy investments in the core of Zimmers defense, including first-round picks Harrison Smith at safety, Xavier Rhodes at cornerback, linebacker Anthony Barr and defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd. How much Bradford might help the Vikings prep for Wentz and diagnose what is on Pedersons play sheet is overrated according to Zimmer. Pederson worked himself into a huff on Monday when he said only one person has seen the entire playbook. That person is Pederson.Honestly, I think all that stuffs overrated, Zimmer said, with a qualifier that he has grilled Bradford for intel on the Eagles. Ive looked at and people have left stuff in locker rooms when theyve played us before and I cant even decipher it. I dont think he was there very long with Doug, really, he wasnt there during the spring and he wasnt there all that long. I think you go watch the tape and do the best you can. The injury bothered Bledsoe in the Suns victory over the Clippers on Monday and he sat out the teams home loss to Memphis on Thursday night. Big plays and game-changing developments have been divided sporadically throughout most of this NFL season. Not on Sunday. From the Meadowlands to Miami, from Green Bay to the Bay Area and points in between, Week 9 brought a flood of standout performances. Maybe even something to lift the TV ratings, too.Do you like big-time kick returns? The Colts Jordan Todman had one to open their win at Lambeau Field. And the Dolphins Kenyan Drake had one to finish off their victory over the Jets.It is a very rare play, Todman said. This is my sixth year in the league and it is my first return to the house. It is huge. It is very rare, but when it does happen you see the results. When things click in the right way, when all blocks are there and it is set up in the right way, you can house it.Todmans 99-yarder got things started for Indy, putting the host Packers in an early hole. Drakes 96-yarder provided the winning points for Miami.Im just a little sick after that, the rookie from Alabama said. Kind of had to run back and forth like from kickoff return, then kickoff, then punt. Just a little winded still, but hey, that win makes it a lot better I guess. The NFL might be on the way to legislating kick runbacks out of the game for safetys sake, but while they remain, they sure do thrill. So do momentum-creating defensive plays, and there were plenty of those Sunday, as well. The Giants picked off two of Carson Wentzs first three throws, and quickly they were up 14-0 on two TD passes by Eli Manning. Those plays were critical in New Yorks 28-23 victory because the Eagles eventually got into position to grab the win.On the other side, had Philly scored any points off its two interceptions -- or off Darren Sproles 66-yard punt return -- the result in New Jersey could have been different. The thing that got us was the big plays, Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins said. Everything else other than that we felt really good about. The big plays hurt us.There were six plays of at least 30 yards in the first half alone at MetLife Stadiium.dddddddddddd The game also featured a blocked field goal and four fourth-down tries by Philadelphia, only one of them successful. The Saints Mark Ingram , who appeared headed to losing his starting job, broke a 75-yard touchdown run during his 158-yard day at the 49ers. That matchup also was highlighted by touchdown passes of 32, 47, and 65 yards. Two of those were produced by offensively challenged San Francisco.Weve got plenty more, all of which ratcheted up the excitement quotient:- Todman added a 61-yard kickoff runback.- Baltimores Chris Moore returned Javorius Allens blocked punt 14 yards for a TD in a win over Pittsburgh.- Dwight Lowery and Brandon Flowers of the Chargers each scored defensive TDs against the Titans. Lowery returned a fumble 43 yards and Flowers had a 33-yard interception return for a score.Nothing tops what went on at the only overtime game of the day, though. In Detroits 22-16 victory at Minnesota, Tyrunn Walker blocked Blair Walshs 46-yard field goal attempt early in the fourth quarter. Then Matt Prater nailed a 58-yarder -- 58 yards! -- as regulation time expired. Not that Prater was new to such achievements: it was the second-longest tying field goal in the final minute of the fourth quarter in NFL history, behind Praters 59-yader in 2011 with Denver against Chicago.Im confident, Prater said. More than likely Im not worried about missing it short. ... I expect to make every kick. I dont overanalyze it or think too much. I just kick it and hope it goes straight. It did. But wait, theres more.Golden Tate took a pass along the left sideline, shook off two attempted tackles by the Vikings vaunted defense, then vaulted into the end zone to win it.At that point, I think God took over and pushed me into the end zone, Tate said. But the jumping part was definitely me.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
