Heres whats happening around the NHL this week.Anaheim Ducks: Any thought of Jonathan Bernier snatching a larger helping of the goaltending time-share in Anaheim is on pause after John Gibsons dominant performance in Tuesdays 4-1 win over the Oilers. Running hot and cold this season, the talented 23-year-old is due to level out at some point, so keep Bernier in mind.Arizona Coyotes: The subject of enduring trade rumors, Martin Hanzal has returned from a five-game absence following an unspecified lower-body injury. With an expiring contract, the monster centerman would most suitably fill a prominent role on a contending team this spring -- an enticing prospect for his respective fantasy owners. However, the 29-year-olds inability to remain healthy remains an ongoing concern.Boston Bruins: A hurting David Pastrnak is considered questionable for Thursdays tilt with the Wild. Pastrnak is not better today, so we werent going to let him go on the ice, said coach Claude Julien after practice Wednesday. Id say hes day-to-day right now. Riley Nash filled in for Pastrnak on the top line with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, and its fair to expect that to continue during Pastrnaks absence.Buffalo Sabres: Top center Ryan OReilly could make his return from a suspected abdominal injury as early as Thursday. If not, Saturdays contest against the Penguins is a decent bet. Unfortunately, the already banged-up Buffalo squad must now manage without Tyler Ennis for up to two months. Meanwhile, winger Evander Kane remains the subject of trade rumors, with the Wild and Canucks on a list of interested parties.Calgary Flames: The Flames (7-10-1) will have to make do without Johnny Gaudreau for a spell, as we await a specific timetable following surgery to fix his fractured finger. Sophomore Sam Bennett is the early favorite to replace Gaudreau on the Flames top line aside Sean Monahan.Carolina Hurricanes: In light of evidence the rest of the league may be taking the Hurricanes lightly, we find ourselves even more fascinated with the up-and-coming TSA line (Teuvo Teravainen, Jordan Staal, Sebastian Aho). Owned in 43.2, 11.7, and 5.0 percent of ESPN leagues respectively, Staal, Teravainen and Aho are still in the process of jelling and improving.Chicago Blackhawks: The search for the left wing to fit in alongside Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane rattles onward. Young Joel Hinostroza was reportedly making a favorable impression on coach Joel Quenneville in his recent turn, but then suffered an in-game upper-body injury Tuesday night in Winnipeg. Wait and see if the 22-year-old gets another go soon. However it shakes out, whoever settles into that spot for a good spell will undoubtedly see an uptick in fantasy value.Colorado Avalanche: Forward Matt Duchene will remain out of the lineup on Thursday, but is expected to return this weekend. However, beyond expecting Duchene to rejoin Gabriel Landeskog on the Avalanches top line, were shying away from other lineup predictions. With Tuesdays 4-1 victory over the Kings the glaring exception, the Avs are struggling to score. Coach Jared Bednar is apt to go in many different directions until the club pulls out of that funk.Columbus Blue Jackets: Our largest fantasy takeaway from John Tortorellas relative contentment with all four of his lines rolling is that Alexander Wennberg is in zero danger of losing his grip on the top centermans position. Owned in 52.8 percent of ESPN leagues, and playing with Nick Foligno and Brandon Saad, the 22-year-old center has 15 points in 14 games (and a plus-seven rating), including a club-leading eight points with the man advantage.Dallas Stars: Recovering from a knee injury, Cody Eakin could make his season debut Thursday. Sooner or later, the 25-year-old forward is a threat to re-assemble with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin on the Stars top line. Theres also talk Patrick Sharp could be on track to return from a concussion over the weekend. Taken altogether, this means Dallas top six could sport a significantly altered look in the coming days.Detroit Red Wings: The Red Wings are hoping to have Thomas Vanek back on Sunday. In light of the Wings ho-hum beginning to 2016-17, and Vaneks explosive start with his new club, a prominent role for the veteran forward is guaranteed. Activate him at will.Edmonton Oilers: While the Oilers are stumbling as a whole after such a strong start to the season, Patrick Maroon -- owned in only 27.2 percent of ESPN leagues -- is making the most of his top-line assignment aside Connor McDavid and Jordan Eberle. Although coach Todd McLellan might feel inclined to shuffle up the rest until the funk breaks, we suspect hell leave Maroon in that role for now.Florida Panthers: Panthers goalie James Reimer will start against his former team Thursday night. While Reimer will inarguably feel additionally motivated to better his ex-teammates, Torontos young squad is no slouch on offense this season, averaging 3.13 goals per game, the fifth-best mark in the league. In any case, he makes for an intriguing play in DFS.Los Angeles Kings: The Kings are likely to be without Anze Kopitar for Thursdays matchup with the Oilers. Adjust your daily lineups accordingly. Apart from the Kings current top line of Tyler Toffoli, Jeff Carter and Tanner Pearson, there isnt much to truly tempt the fantasy palate in L.A. these days.Montreal Canadiens: New favorite among Habs faithful, forward Alexander Radulov will miss at least one more game for the Canadiens due to illness, Thursdays contest in Carolina. Also, a reminder here that current top-line forward Paul Byron isnt earning enough respect from fantasy owners. Owned in merely 8.4 percent of ESPN leagues, Byron has four goals and one assist in the past five games. Dont forget about him in DFS, either.Minnesota Wild: Headed back to his pro club in Sweden, Joel Eriksson Ek is unlikely to see much, if any, more NHL action this campaign. While a brief taste with the Wild in spring is possible -- once the season wraps up overseas -- all but those in deep dynasty leagues should feel free to cut the 19-year-old loose.Nashville Predators: After sitting out Tuesdays loss to the Maple Leafs, Pekka Rinne insists he feels just fine ahead of Thursdays game in Ottawa. I feel good, Rinne said Wednesday. No problems. It was good to get on the ice just to prepare myself for tomorrow. I havent got the nod yet, but felt good. Im ready to go. Rinne has been flat outstanding for the Preds since the start of November.New Jersey Devils: In crushing news for the Devils, Taylor Hall is anticipated to miss three to four weeks with a knee injury. In Halls absence, Beau Bennett is tapped to see additional minutes on Jerseys No. 1 line with P.A. Parenteau and Travis Zajac. Under such circumstances, and after collecting an assist in a more than 17 minutes on Tuesday, the 24-year-old former Penguin merits enhanced fantasy consideration.New York Islanders: For those of you waiting for a little top-line magic to form in Brooklyn, the latest shuffling sees Ryan Strome on the wing with center John Tavares and Josh Bailey. That trio also makes up the bulk of the clubs No. 1 power play. If youve been waiting for justification to invest in Strome, this would qualify.New York Rangers: Rejoining the Rangers in practice Thursday, Chris Kreider clearly isnt hurt too bad. Good news, surely. That being said, the red-hot Rangers also managed well enough without Kreider and rookie Pavel Buchnevich in this weeks two victories, largely thanks to the continued outstanding play of forwards J.T. Miller and Kevin Hayes (be it together, or apart). So dont be surprised if the club proceeds with caution, and holds Kreider out for Fridays contest with Columbus.Ottawa Senators: A healthy scratch after recovering from a groin issue, and perceived third banana to Craig Anderson and backup Mike Condon, Andrew Hammond is making headlines in Ottawa as a potential trade candidate. Although this seasons curt and ugly resume wont reel in any potential new employers, remember that Hammond was solid enough this past season, and downright brilliant in 2014-15. Clubs with gaping goaltending holes may be willing to pony up the Senators barter price. If so, renewed fantasy relevancy may be right around the corner for the 28-year-old.Philadelphia Flyers: Some players appear to relish the challenge of wagering on their own abilities through the expiring year of their contracts. Others, not such much. According to Sportsnets Elliotte Friedman, Flyers goalie Steve Mason seems to firmly belong in the latter group:Flyers GM Ron Hextall hasnt entered into negotiations with either Mason or the injured Michal Neuvirth, both of whom are unrestricted free agents next summer. Some guys are built to bet on themselves, to handle the uncertainty, but people whove played/worked with them in the past say it will be harder for these two. Look at Masons contract history. His second deal was signed a year before it took effect. Traded to Philly on Apr. 3, 2013, as a pending restricted free agent, he signed a one-year contract five days later. Eligible for something new on Jan. 1, 2014, he inked his current three-year extension 17 days after that date. Clearly, there was a plan when the Flyers got him. Theres much less of a plan for him this time around and its a challenge for him.Phillys No. 1 out of necessity, Mason isnt having a very good season, with a 3.24 goals-against average and .884 save percentage. The above take doesnt promise much of a turnaround anytime soon. Also, with Neuvirth out hurt, you have to believe prospect Anthony Stolarz will get his first NHL shot soon.Meanwhile, with Shayne Gostisbehere relegated to the press box as a healthy scratch Thursday against the Jets, look for Michael Del Zotto -- whos been productive in his first five games -- to benefit from a fresh chunk of power-play minutes.Pittsburgh Penguins: By all accounts, Matt Murray appears no worse for wear after taking a stick to the head in Wednesdays 7-1 loss to the Capitals. In what feels like a case of (intelligently) erring on side of caution, and despite clearing concussion protocols, Murray was plastered to the bench, leaving a floundering Marc-Andre Fleury to take the full brunt of Wednesdays 7-1 loss to the Capitals. Just make sure Murray doesnt experience new symptoms before the weekend if you plan on using him.San Jose Sharks: Backup Aaron Dell was superb in his second start of the season on Tuesday, denying 32 of 33 shots in a tight 1-0 loss to the Hurricanes (he won his only other start, against the Islanders, in October). We bring this up because the Sharks face two sets of back-to-backs before the month of November is through. So, as well as No. 1 Martin Jones has performed to date, we could see a little more from San Joses No. 2 in the next while.St. Louis Blues: The Blues may be without Vladimir Tarasenko and Alexander Steen on Thursday eve versus the Sharks. Recent scratch Nail Yakupov is a threat to fill a top-six role if either, or both, cant suit up. Goodness knows, the Oilers reject has fallen short of impressing his new squad in St. Louis. Plenty to prove here.Tampa Bay Lightning: The devastating long-term loss of Steven Stamkos for four to six months means that there will be some top-six shuffling for Lightning coach Jon Cooper. To start, Vladislav Namestnikov shifts over to fill Stamkos spot at center next to Nikita Kucherov, while Ondrej Palat moves up to join them on the left side. However, it may take a while for Cooper to settle on his preferred combo, especially with a healthy Jonathan Drouin back in the mix. Also, dont be shocked if Tyler Johnson soon muscles his way up to the No. 1 lines center position.Toronto Maple Leafs: After the clubs top two centers sat out the morning skate in Toronto, there was some (not much, admittedly) worry that Auston Matthews and Tyler Bozak might be in danger of missing Thursdays matchup with the visiting Panthers. Weve since been assured both are good to go. Considering coach Mike Babcock lasted all of 11 minutes though the optional himself, there wasnt much real cause for concern here.Vancouver Canucks: If mining for a promising fantasy tidbit from the Canucks organization this week, give Brandon Sutter a glance. Presently jammed on an even-strength line and power-play unit with the Sedins, the versatile 27-year-old has two goals and an assist, including a point with the extra skater, in his past pair of games. Sutter could be worth a longer look in DFS going against the generous Coyotes on Thursday in particular.Washington Capitals: While Alex Ovechkin insists hes fine after taking a brief injury break following an awkward in-game fall Wednesday, coach Barry Trotzs response leaves a bit too much open to interpretive worry: I think hes OK. Somewhere on his body, hes a little sore today, but he tangled up there trying to cut laterally. Hopefully, theres nothing too serious there. He came back and seemed to be no worse for wear. Hopefully, theres nothing too serious there is the eyebrow-raising bit -- if just slightly. Keep an eye out for updates.Winnipeg Jets: Given the opportunity to etch his name on the No. 1 goalie line, Connor Hellebuyck has done just that this season with the Jets. Rocking a .929 save percentage through his past nine appearances, Hellebuyck has won five of his past six starts, punctuated by Tuesdays shutout victory over the Blackhawks. Aside from this upcoming weekends back-to-back on the road (at Boston and Carolina), we may not see much of Michael Hutchinson this month.
