ST. LOUIS -- Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright lost his glove trying to tag out Yoenis Cespedes in a bizarre play and lost the game, too, when Alejandro De Azas homer and five RBI sent the New York Mets over St. Louis 10-6 Thursday night.Seth Lugo (1-2) pitched five scoreless innings for his first big league win. The Mets took two of three to win their first series at Busch Stadium since 2008.Brandon Moss hit two home runs for the Cardinals and Jedd Gyorko and Stephen Piscotty also connected. The Mets led 3-0 in the fifth when Wainwright (9-8) and Cespedes were involved in a strange sequence.Cespedes tried to go from first to third on a bloop single by James Loney. When several Cardinals chased the ball, Wainwright covered third base. Cespedes slid and his cleat pinned Wainwrights glove to the bag -- he wouldve been out, but when Wainwright pulled away his hand, the mitt stayed stuck under Cespedes foot.Because Wainwright didnt control the ball, Cespedes was called safe in a ruling upheld by replay. Moments later, De Aza hit a three-run homer to make it 7-0.Lugo gave up two hits and struck out five to earn his first win since May 10 at Triple-A Las Vegas. On Tuesday night, Mets reliever Robert Gsellman also posted his first big league win.Together, Lugo and Gsellman helped the Mets win a road series from the first time since July 22-24 in Miami.Lugo left the game with right calf cramp while warming up before the sixth. By then, hed also gotten his first hit in the majors.James Loney got three hits and scored twice for the Mets. Loney is hitting .529 (18 for 34) against Wainwright for his career.Wainwright struggled for the third time in his last four starts, giving up seven runs -- only two earned -- and nine hits in five innings.TRAINERS ROOMMets: OF Jay Bruce (calf) was out of the lineup after leaving Wednesday nights game with cramps. ... Australian Oaks winner Sofia Rosa is close to a return to training in New Zealand after a disappointing Melbourne spring campaign. Her trainer Stephen Marsh is looking to the mare to get back to top form and help fill the void left by the departure of NZ 2000 Guineas winner Ugo Foscolo to the Sydney stable of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. One of the early favourites for the Caulfield Cup, Sofia Rosas Melbourne campaign was aborted after three starts.Marsh inspected the the mare last weekend and was more than happy with her condition ahead of a campaign he hopes will lead to a return to Sydney in the autumn.dddddddddddd.She has done tremendously well and looks amazing, Marsh told NZRacing.co.I was thrilled to bits and she looks back to where she was.She just didnt thrive in the spring and never lost her winter coat at all.She didnt do that well as a spring three-year-old either, but really came right in the autumn and I cant see any reason why she wont do the same this season. She will probably kick off here somewhere and then most likely head to Sydney.
