New,26commentsEDTShareTweetShareShareEd Dodds is a Top GM Candidate, So How Long Can the Colts Keep Him? Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsAccording to Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller, Indianapolis Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds is widely considered one of the top general manager candidates in the entire league—should he so choose to actively pursue such an opportunity (and promotion):Of course, many Colts fans already knew at least part of this. Ed Dodds is really good at his current job.Dodds has always been highly regarded for his scouting acumen from his days with the Seattle Seahawks, where he previously served as a senior personnel executive. It’s not hard to see Dodds’ thumbprint already on the Colts much-improved roster either, as he played an instrumental role in the franchise signing Pro Bowl alternate Denico Autry last offseason:Not to mention the claiming of undrafted rookie free agent cornerback Kenny Moore off waivers. Although he didn’t meet the Colts initial measurement criteria for the position, Moore has emerged into a really good defensive back for the Colts, and was acquired in part due to Dodd’s persuasion skills:Dodds' influence on the Colts can also be seen in how they’ve placed a heavy influence on athletic traits, namely SPARQ ratings, in their draft selection process. That'salways been something that the Seattle Seahawks have emphasized, and the Colts have now readily followed suit with Dodds’ addition. It’s not the first time that Miller has expressed his affinity for Dodds, either, and how he’s viewed as a top general manager candidate league-wide. He previously said as much in October of 2018:He’s not alone Tyquan Lewis Jersey , either, as The MMQB’s Albert Breer previously wrote this blurb in December of 2018, naming Dodds one of his top GM candidates:Colts fans have gotten more exposure to Chris Ballard’s “right-hand man” through the team’s “With the Next Pick” video series. So far, the results have been impressive, getting to see more of him and his ability to articulate some of the team’s decision-making process. Dodds definitely has the talent to become a franchise’s top decision-maker some day soon, should he decide to pursue such an opportunity. For the Colts, it’s difficult because when or if that day comes, it’ll be a tough pill for the organization to swallow, because they’d be losing such a talented evaluator near the very top of their organization. That being said, he’s earned that opportunity, and success ultimately breeds success. Unfortunately, other teams eventually want part of the action—at the expense of a then former team. However, in such a situation, it’s hard not to be happy for Dodds. Similarly to how the Colts could ultimately lose defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus to a head coaching gig in the foreseeable future, it wouldn’t be surprising (actually it’s probably much anticipated) to see Dodds get a promotion as a team’s top GM relatively soon. Nevertheless Ryan Grant Color Rush Jersey , that won’t stop many fans from keeping their fingers crossed. For the time being, Colts fans can sit back, relax, and marvel at Ballard and Dodds’ effective “1-2 punch”, knowing full well that the franchise very well could have two of the league’s best talent evaluators under one roof—which seems rare. While “the secret may be out” on Dodds league-wide, Colts fans would be wise to enjoy these fun days while they still have them, as the franchise continues to stockpile its cupboard with more young and talented players with his overall help and influence. HOUSTON (AP) — Houston Texans coach Bill O’Brien on Monday defended Jadeveon Clowney and his late offside penalty that factored into Houston’s 24-21 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, which ended a nine-game winning streak.“He’s an aggressive player and you never want to take away that aggressiveness,” O’Brien said. “In that situation, he made a mistake, and I’m sure he’d be the first to tell you that. Andrew (Luck) did a good job on that play, and (Colts coach) Frank (Reich) did a good job of getting their guys coached up on it.”With two minutes remaining on Sunday and the Texans down 24-21 and needing a critical stop at midfield on third-and-1, Luck tried several times to draw the Texans offside before Clowney finally took the bait. The 5-yard penalty gave the Colts a first down and, ultimately, the win. The Colts (7-6) snapped a franchise-record winning streak by Houston (9-4) https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Marshall-Faulk-Jersey , trimming the Texans’ lead in the AFC South to two games with three remaining.Clowney later refused to comment when approached by reporters after the game.O’Brien said Monday that on the play, there was a sense among the Texans defensive players that the Colts would try to run the ball in the short-yardage situation and that Clowney was not at fault for the loss.“He’s a very aggressive player who has made a lot of plays for us,” O’Brien said. “We didn’t lose the game because of that. We lost the game because we had four or five three-and-outs, gave up 199 yards to one receiver and we didn’t play our best game on special teams. That’s really more what it came down to.”Clowney had two tackles in the game and has 7 sacks on the season, second on the team to J.J. Watt’s 12½ sacks.“No one wants to lose,” O’Brien said. “It’s a bottom-line business when you lose a game like that. We’ve lost four games this year by a touchdown or less and that’s the NFL — these games are very, very tight. There are six to eight plays in a game that are critical and if you don’t execute those plays, you’re probably going to lose the game.”The receiver O’Brien was referring to was T.Y. Hilton who entered the game as the NFL’s leader in receiving yards per game at NRG Stadium with 122.3 and only padded his lead with a 199-yard performance on nine catches. Luck threw for 399 yards and two touchdowns.O’Brien said there are things the defense can shore up before the Texans visit the Jets on Saturday to avoid giving up more big plays in the passing game.“I think the big thing is, when you look at the tape, on those particular plays, we have not combined coverage and rush,” O’Brien said.“Whether it was the rush not getting home or the coverage playing too loose. We just have to continue to work at that and clean those things up, relative to who we’re playing. I don’t really get worried about anything and just make sure our guys understand where we need to improve.”
