ESPN the Magazines Nov. 28 Tall Ball issue, which focuses on the varied aspects of height and sport, prompted us to ask around about #tallgirlproblems. Not to stereotype, but tall women often have some specific challenges that they deal with. But even the most annoying stuff wouldnt make any of the women we spoke with want to give up even an inch of their height. Its just sometimes ... hey, the next time you see a tall woman, please try to refrain from asking horrible corny stuff like Hows the weather up there? All tall women thank you in advance.Brianna Turner, 6-foot-3, Notre Dame forwardIts mostly things like sleeves not being long enough. Or knee-high boots that are not knee-high at all on me. And I always say when we do push-ups its harder if you are tall and have longer arms. Or doing pull-ups.Alaina Coates, 6-4, South Carolina centerMy top pet peeve is finding jeans long enough. Ill just have to roll them up and make them look like theyre supposed to be that way. So when its really cold, my ankles will be freezing. You can shop online, but if they dont fit right, you have to send them back. And most of the time, Im just like, Forget it. Lisa Leslie, 6-5, former Los Angeles Sparks star and Naismith Hall of FamerI would say my No. 1 tall girl problem is that people have to ask me every day, Do you play basketball? Ive had people make comments about my height every day of my life. That can get annoying. Im thankful for it; I used it. You dont go around commenting on someones weight or size, so its just really annoying. Its the kind of thing that people should just say to themselves: Wow, shes really tall. But I dont need to be informed that Im tall. I get it.Tina Thompson, 6-2, WNBAs all-time scoring leaderIve been blessed to be able to find clothes and shoes; for me that hasnt been that difficult. Probably the most annoying are the awkward, lame conversations and the cliché one-liners. Like, Is the view better up there? What do you say to stuff like that?Just say hello, introduce yourself and lets move on to politics, sports, whatever you want to talk about. The lead-in with the tall-girl joke was very unnecessary.Sylvia Fowles, 6-6, Minnesota Lynx, 2016 WNBA defensive player of the yearA lot of jeans that come in longer lengths have flared legs. I hate flares. I hate wide legs. I feel like all tall-girl jeans should be skinny. So when I do find a pair I like that fits, I buy them in every color. If someone asks me the basketball question, I change it up. I say, Oh, actually I play water polo. And nobody really wants to talk to me much about that.Swin Cash, 6-2, just retired from New York LibertyAirplanes would be first. My jeans would be another. I get mad all the time, because jeans just arent cut properly. Then theres the Tall guys like short girls, and vice versa ... that can be a tall girl problem. With the standard hotel-room shower, and youre trying to wash your hair, you have to maneuver around. You are always going to get asked if you play volleyball or basketball. And if you were to say that you didnt play sports, people look at you with a kind of disdain, like, You wasted your height! Your height just makes them think you automatically have to be an athlete.Nneka Ogwumike, 6-2, Los Angeles Sparks, 2016 WNBA MVPOne of the shortcomings of being tall -- ha ha -- is that you can never swing your feet when youre sitting on a stool. And you always have to be at the back of a photo. I like being in the front. Thats why a lot of times in photos, you see me lying down in front. I want to be seen, you know?Pants arent so bad, because nowadays there are a lot of different outlets to buy from. I do almost all of my shopping online, and the clothes are super trendy, which is awesome. I love it.Another huge issue is sitting on airplanes. Actually, though, Im not sure thats just a tall girl problem. Thats like a human-rights issue. (Laughs)I also feel like climbing stairs is a little more difficult for us, because of the leverage. And I feel more tired after stairs, and thats confusing to me because Im athletic.People always assume Im a basketball or volleyball player. One guy, though, came up and asked me if I was a ballerina. I said, Are you being serious? and he seemed like he was.The short guys are always like, I love me a tall girl. And its like, Seriously?I love shoes, and people will say, Why are you wearing heels? Youre tall already. And I said, That has nothing to do with me wearing heels. So thats pretty annoying. On peoples reactions to seeing her with sister Chiney Ogwumike, who is 6-3: Its always like, Where are you guys from? and Im like, Is that question just because were tall? But overall, I have no issues with it. Its a beautiful thing.Jantel Lavender, 6-4, Los Angeles Sparks, 2016 WNBA Sixth Woman of the YearThe biggest one is clothes, although its gotten better over the years. But you cant just go into a store -- if something comes up -- and find pants that fit. Or getting a dress thats long enough for your arms. Or shoes -- you cant just go get a nice pair of heels to wear to an event.I shop at ASOS.com -- they have a tall section that is amazing. I have so many clothes now that Im never caught off guard.I would say toilets are pretty low. Its just so far down, and then the stall doors arent that high all the time, so your heads sticking up. But I think it becomes second-nature for us to adjust.Candace Parker, 6-4, Los Angeles Sparks, 2016 WNBA Finals MVPIm against stereotypes, so I hate fitting the stereotype. People are like, Oh, you must play basketball. And Im like [lowers voice and sounds a bit disgusted], Yes.Has girls embarrassment over being tall changed? I hope it has. My daughter is around so many tall women, I dont think it registers to her that shes dwarfing her classmates. Shes tall; she holds her shoulders back with pride. We tease her about her big feet, and she loves them and her long legs.I think its generational. I wasnt always the happiest being as tall as I was, but I learned to accept it and then love it.Aja Wilson, 6-5, South Carolina forwardOther than clothes sometimes, I dont really see any problems with being tall. Sebastian Lletget Jersey . Mickelson barely made the cut but had the best round of the day with nine birdies and an eagle coupled with two bogeys to sit two shots behind leader Craig Lee of Scotland. Lee shot a 69 for a 12-under 204 total. "I just love the fact I am in contention and have an opportunity in my first tournament of the year here in Abu Dhabi," Mickelson said. Alejandro Bedoya USA Jersey . -- Jakob Silfverberg is making himself right at home with the Anaheim Ducks, scoring four goals in his first four games. http://www.usasoccerauthority.com/sacha-kljestan-usa-jersey/ .Y. - Rob Manfred was promoted Monday to Major League Baseballs chief operating officer, which may make him a candidate to succeed Bud Selig as commissioner. Eric Lichaj USA Jersey .Y. - New York City has been selected to host the NBA All-Star weekend in 2015, with the game played at Madison Square Garden and the slam dunk contest and other skills events held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Graham Zusi Jersey .com) - The Calgary Flames aim to bounce back from their first regulation home loss of the campaign on Friday night when they host a Detroit Red Wings club that they swept in three meetings a season ago. TORONTO -- Watching grim-faced Team USA players Zach Parise, David Backes, Kyle Palmieri and Derek Stepan walk into the media center at the World Cup of Hockey on Wednesday afternoon was reminiscent of a Sean Penn scene from the movie Dead Man Walking.Dead team walking. Thats pretty much Team USA at this tournament as the Americans prepare for a final, meaningless preliminary-round game against the Czech Republic on Thursday night. The outcome may be meaningless, but the flameout of this team in this best-on-best tournament has created a cottage industry of USA Hockey-bashing that may be unrivaled for the sport in the age of social media.Less than 24 hours after the Americans 4-2 loss Tuesday night to Canada, which eliminated the U.S. from playoff contention, USA Hockey was in retreat mode rather than meeting the issue head-on.Team USA officials initially tried to shut down any media access to the team on Wednesday, but after pressure from reporters and tournament organizers the team made four players available.GM Dean Lombardi is expected to speak to the media Thursday after the teams morning skate. Team USA head coach John Tortorella presumably will as well. But since the questions about the construction of the team, the lineup decisions, and the overall mindset of USA Hockey regarding international tournaments were still burning in the hours after their fate at the tournament was sealed, its inexcusable that those four American players were hung out to dry.And lets take a moment to acknowledge that the players would rather have been anywhere else than surrounded by dozens of reporters and cameras and being forced to answer questions about whether Phil Kessel was ripping them on Twitter after the loss to Canada on Tuesday night. The Pittsburgh Penguins winger wasnt selected for the U.S. World Cup team. Its disappointing, said Backes, a two-time Olympian, when asked about Kessels tweet. Its almost to say we were coasting or dont care or werent representing our country as well as we could have. For other guys who have worn the jersey, its disappointing.I understand theres hard feelings if you werent picked for the team or whatever, but the comments are, I think -- as a team guy and a guy who stands by my teammates win, lose or draw -- its a little distasteful and aggravating. And dont expect Backes, the longtime St. Louis Blues captain who is now a member of the Boston Bruins, to forget about the dig. Those comments dont get lost in the fray, and those comments are there and have been read and I think will be remembered when whatever happens going forward, he added.Parise, another two-time Olympian who was the captain of the U.S. squad at the Sochi Olympics, asked aloud whether Kessel would have been able tto play in the tournament considering that he suffered a hand injury during the playoffs.ddddddddddddDidnt he just have surgery? I thought he did, Parise said. His tweet didnt really make sense. Regardless, I dont really care what Phil said.Regardless of Kessels health, the goal scorer was ignored by Team USAs management team, as were ?Tampa Bay Lightning? center Tyler Johnson and ?Buffalo Sabres? power forward Kyle Okposo along with offensive-minded defensemen Justin Faulk, Kevin Shattenkirk and Cam Fowler. After Tuesdays game, Tortorella insisted that he wouldnt change the roster, which was outscored 7-2 in these first two games. One suspects that was an impulsive response rather than one based on reason.Of course, since no one from USA Hockey or team management was available on Wednesday to address the implications of this disastrous showing, ? it was left to the designated players to answer the hows and whys of this tawdry tale. And really, how fair is it to put players in the position of having to address whether they should have been selected to represent their country? Not very.Again, our job as players is to play, not pick teams, said Parise. I dont know what goes into how they pick teams and thats none of my business. Our job is to play. I dont plan on getting in the managing business. The players control only the moments on the ice. They werent in charge of organizing a tournament that denied both Canada and the United States access to top players under the age of 24. Those players formed the entertaining Team North America entry, which is still in the running. The U.S. players didnt pick the team or the coaching staff. They played and they accepted that what they did here in Toronto was not nearly good enough.Theres a different look, perhaps, if everyones available, said Backes, who admitted that if every American player had been available to Team USA, maybe he wouldnt have been on the roster. Perhaps a gut check for everybody whos on this team to evaluate what they were able to give or what they gave for the red, white and blue, those colors they wear so proudly.Thats something, no matter what jersey youre in, the pride as a competitive athlete should be that youre giving everything you got, every shift, every period to help your team win, and we didnt play near well enough.Something this ugly doesnt get resolved in one day. Or two. Or three. There are organizational issues at play here, philosophical ones with hard questions aplenty. If there isnt a lot of soul-searching going on at USA Hockey about how this smoking crater came to be, there should be. And in a hurry. ' ' '
