Australia fly-half Bernard Foley has hit back at his sides critics and says the Wallabies togetherness was crucial to their impressive win against Wales. Following whitewash series defeats to both England and New Zealand the squad had come in for criticism, with Foley himself moved to the centres to accommodate the return of Quad Cooper. However, back in his favoured No. 10 jersey, Foley put in a man-of-the-match performance as the Wallabies blew their hosts away, building a 20-3 half-time lead at the Principality Stadium before eventually triumphing 32-8. For us there is a lot of external noise, and there has been this year, and its something that weve had to put up with, Foley said. But as a squad were taking no notice of that external noise, were trying to just focus on our roles in this squad and be really tight as a squad. And I think the resilience this team has showed, the character its showed with the tests that weve been put through this year is just setting the platform for future success.Wallabies head coach Michael Cheika praised his teams preparation for the game in his post-match press conference, and his playmaker echoed those thoughts. He said: Its pleasing, it definitely is. Its on the back of a lot of hard work, not just this week but throughout the Rugby Championship and into that third Bledisloe [Cup game against the All Blacks] this team has been working tirelessly on our defensive systems, on making the right tackles and decisions, but also on our attack shape. If you look at the forwards, they were awesome in their ability to set the platform, set the physicality. Thats something we have to continue. However, Foley insisted there was still work to be done as the Wallabies turn their attention to their game against Scotland at Murrayfield next Saturday. The two sides met in last years Rugby World Cup quarterfinal, with Australia securing their passage to the last four thanks in no small part to a questionable decision from referee Craig Joubert. You only have to look back at last years quarterfinal, he added. Theyre a team that if youre ill-disciplined and knock off at the set piece, theyll really hurt you. Thats something well address early in this week and go with a plan to nullify that.Meanwhile, Cheika revealed that David Pocock was replaced at half-time in Cardiff due to a head knock sustained in the first half.Willie Stargell Jersey . According to a report from the Vancouver Province, the Lions are expected to replace former DC Rich Stubler with defensive backs coach Mark Washington. Bill Mazeroski Jersey . The defence is doing its part, too. Drew Brees threw a pair of touchdown passes in the first half and the guys on the other side made sure that was enough, sending the Saints to a 17-13 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night. The team arrived in the jungle city of Manaus about six hours before overcoming jet leg and the heat and humidity in the Amazon city to win a thrilling game. The teams spokesman posted a picture on Twitter of the team boarding the plane with the message here we go and later displayed images of members going through immigration and collecting luggage. The team faced the uncomfortable situation of spending the day of its debut at the Olympics aboard an airplane on a more than six-hour flight and facing a Japan team that was in Brazil for several days preparing for the contest. There are conflicting reports about how the team ended up in this position.Bunmi Jinadu, founder of United Soccer Africa, disputed reports that the team missed its original flight because of a money issue between the Nigerian government and a charter company. Delta Air Lines cited a communications mix-up that grounded the teams original Friday flight.Jinadu said the problem stemmed from poor planning and coordination on the part of the Nigerian team in leaving Atlanta, where it has been training to prepare for the games. He said the team had assumed it could simply buy plane tickets to Rio at the last minute -- just like Nigerians do in their home country to book travel. They then encountered a crush of travelers and lack of flights at the busy Atlanta airport, where sseveral Brazil-bound trips were originating.dddddddddddd The team thought it had a backup plan on Wednesday, but the plane wasnt big enough to accommodate the team, Jinadu said. The flight the team finally boarded was on a chartered Delta jet. A spokesperson for Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines said it stepped in to help the team get to its destination -- free of charge -- after learning of the flight issue. The plane normally is used to transport NBA teams, and the same aircraft will fly the U.S. mens basketball team back to the U.S. after the Olympics.Atlanta was the site of Nigerias greatest soccer triumph as it won the gold medal there in the 1996 Olympics. This came to our attention on the 20th anniversary of the Nigerian football teams win at the Atlanta games, said Delta spokesperson Betsy Talton. Everyone was happy to help them with another miracle by getting them to Manaus.Jinadu said the mood remained upbeat among the players as they headed to Brazil at the last minute.Nigeria has tough skin, he said. All the players playing on this team know this is their livelihood and they have been overly anxious to get to Rio.Its not the first time an African soccer team had to make a last-minute flight for a high-profile match in Brazil. In 2014, Cameroons World Cup team refused to board a plane to take them to Brazil because of a dispute over bonus payments for the tournament. Their national soccer federation took out a loan to meet their demands, and the team caught a later flight. ' ' '
