SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Dalvin Cook wasnt about to accept all the accolades for his latest achievement.Cook ran for 225 yards and four touchdowns to become Florida States career rushing leader, and the 17th-ranked Seminoles beat Syracuse 45-14 on Saturday.Cook entered the game needing 19 yards to break Warrick Dunns 20-year old school record for rushing (3,959) and did so with a 41-yarder in the first quarter. He finished the first half with 104 yards to become just the sixth player in Atlantic Coast Conference history to reach 4,000 yards and the first to do it in three years.Im blessed to be where Im at, said Cook, who departed early in the fourth quarter after a tough hit knocked the wind out of him. Im really proud of my guys. I give all the credit to those guys (offensive line) and coaches for putting me in the position. They did a great job of giving me the opportunity to be at the top of this list, so Im just thankful.Florida State (8-3, 5-3, No. 17 CFP) won for the fifth time in six games despite four turnovers. Syracuse (4-7, 2-5) suffered its third straight loss.Syracuse starting quarterback Eric Dungey again warmed up before the opening kickoff but did not play for the second straight game. The sophomore has been out since suffering a vicious hit to the shoulder-head area in the first quarter against Clemson two weeks ago.Backup Zack Mahoney had trouble generating any consistency on offense against the Seminoles defense. Florida State intercepted two passes, registered eight sacks, and forced 10 punts in limiting the Orange to 3.2 yards per play. FSU averaged 8.6 yards per play, outgained Syracuse 654-233, and only had four more plays than the Orange.Offensively, it was just very difficult to move the ball, Syracuse coach Dino Babers said. They pressured our quarterback, overpowered our offensive line. A lot of old guys against a lot of young guys. We didnt play very well.Mahoney finished 16 of 36 for 196 yards, but he did have one lucky strike. He hit Amba Etta-Tawo with a 46-yard Hail Mary on the final play of the first half. Etta-Tawo caught the ball in double coverage at the right corner of the end zone.If Syracuse had hopes the big play would provide a spark, Cook dashed those hopes with three touchdowns in the third. After tight end Ryan Izzos 39-yard reception on the first possession of the third quarter, Cook scored on an 11-yard run and added two more scores in the period, from 17 and 8 yards. That matched his career high for TDs in a game and boosted his season total to 18.Cook also had 47 yards on Florida States third scoring drive, capping it with a 25-yard TD run for a 21-0 lead in the second.I think it is a privilege and an honor to not only have a teammate like him, but just a person like him, FSU offensive lineman Roderick Johnson said. Hes not selfish at all. My hats off to Dal.The Seminoles scored on their first two possessions. Deondre Francois hit Nyqwan Murray with a 16-yard TD and followed with a 15-yard scoring toss to Travis Rudolph. On the road, good win, FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said. I loved the way we started the game. We came out fast.Florida State sacked Mahoney four times in the first quarter alone, and even when Brisly Estime gave the Orange tremendous field position with a 42-yard punt return into Florida State territory, the offense sputtered with a three-and-out.THE TAKEAWAYFlorida State: The Seminoles kept their momentum going to reach an upper-tier bowl game, and if Cook keeps up his strong season and that opportunistic defense continues its stellar play, the Seminoles will be difficult to beat.Syracuse: The Orange has had a difficult time without Dungey. Winning for the fifth time this season next week on the road at Pittsburgh is necessary to even be considered for a bowl game, but if Dungey is through for the year that will be a tall task. Pitt drilled Duke 56-14 on Saturday.BIG NUMBERS: Cook has seven 100-yard games this season and boosted his career rushing total to 4,166 yards.RECEIVERS GALORE: Francois was 18 of 28 for 315 yards and completed passes to six different receivers, led by Auden Tate (five catches, 77 yards) and Rudolph (five catches, 64 yards).POLL IMPLICATIONS: With LSUs loss to Florida, Florida State will move up at least a little bit in the rankings for both the AP Top 25 and College Football Playoffs.UP NEXTFlorida State: Finishes its regular season at home next Saturday against in-state rival Florida.Syracuse: Closes its regular season on the road next Saturday against Pittsburgh.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25---Follow Kekis on Twitter: www.twitter.com/Greek1947Andy Dalton Youth Jersey . Despite being unsure of what pitch he hit or what to do as he rounded the bases, Eaton ended a wild game of momentum swings with the first walk-off homer hit into Chase Fields right field pool on Monday night, lifting the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 7-6 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. "Im not sure what happened — I just blacked out," Eaton said. "I thought I hit a heater and found out later it was a slider." Arizona has made an art of the comeback this season and pulled off a desert masterpiece to open the three-game interleague series against the Orioles. Baltimore led 4-2 after roughing up Diamondbacks starter Wade Miley. Arizona went up 5-4 in the seventh by stringing together three run-scoring singles, including one by Aaron Hill, who also homered for the third straight game. Chris Davis tied the game in the eighth with a solo homer, not all that surprising since he leads the majors with 43. The homer by Wil Nieves to lead off the eighth was a bit more unexpected. He hadnt hit one since last season and needed a friendly carom off the top of the wall in left to get it. Arizona closer Brad Ziegler (6-1) had converted his first seven save chances this season, but was uncharacteristically off, giving up a tying sacrifice fly to Nick Markakis after the Orioles loaded the bases against him. Eaton ended the night with its most surprising moment, putting an abrupt end to the momentum swings by sending the first pitch by Darren ODay (5-2) into the pool in right-centre to set off a wild celebration. It was Arizonas second game-ending homer of the homestand — Paul Goldschmidt did it to the Mets on Friday — 23rd win in its last at-bat and 33rd comeback victory of the season. "We could have got discouraged, we let some opportunities go, but battled back against a pretty good team," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. Baltimore got a solid start out of Scott Feldman, hit a pair of homers, twice battled back from late deficits and still wound up losing. Matt Wieters homered and Brian Roberts had two RBIs for the Orioles, who stumbled after winning four of their first five games to start an eight-game road trip. "Momentum is the next pitch you throw," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. Feldman put the Orioles in good position, only running into trouble in the second inning. Hill led off with his eighth homer and Gerardo Parra scored from second on a wild pitch later in the inning, thanks to an obstruction call against Orioles third baseman Manny Machado.dddddddddddd Parra was originally called out at home, but third base umpire Alfonso Marquez ruled Machado, who was standing on the bag, interfered with his progress toward the plate. Feldman was good after that, allowing two runs — one earned — and four hits with eight strikeouts in 5 1-3 innings. He gave up nine earned runs in 9 2-3 innings his previous two starts. "We had that one long inning, the second inning, that weird inning there," Feldman said. "Other than that, the offence picked us up." Though Feldman left with the lead, the bullpen couldnt hold it. Brian Matusz opened the seventh inning by hitting Didi Gregorius, and Eaton, Hill and Martin Prado followed with run-scoring singles off Tommy Hunter to put the Diamondbacks up 5-4. Joe Thatcher, Arizonas left-handed specialist, couldnt hold the lead, either, giving up a no-doubt solo homer to left by Davis that tied the game at 5-all. Nieves put the Diamondbacks back up quickly, hitting his first homer since Aug. 9, 2012, in his first game with the Diamondbacks. Then it was Zieglers turn to blow a lead. Aided by first baseman Goldschmidts inability to get the ball out of his glove on Nate McLouths infield single, the Orioles loaded the bases with one out and Markakis followed with a sacrifice fly to tie the game. The drama ended quickly in the bottom half, when Eaton hit his first homer of the season. He may not have known what happened, but his teammates sure did, mobbing him as he crossed the plate. "He got something up, put a good swing on it and sent it to the pool," said Miley, who watched Eatons homer from the clubhouse after allowing four runs and seven hits in seven innings. "It was a no-doubter." Notes: Showalter received a nice ovation after being recognized in the first inning in his first game at Chase Field since 2000.
