Fremantle have finished a horror 2016 season on a high with a memorable farewell of Matthew Pavlich, but coach Ross Lyon stopped short of announcing any further departures from the AFL club.Lyon famously announced the retirements publicly of Michael Gardiner, Steven Baker, Robert Eddy and Andrew McQualter from St Kilda at the end of 2011, but there was no such announcement from the Dockers coach to conclude 2016.It has been a disastrous season for Fremantle, winning just four games on the back of a minor premiership and preliminary final appearance in 2015.But it at least finished on a high with a 20-point victory at Domain Stadium against the finals bound Western Bulldogs on Sunday. It was a day celebrating the career of former captain Pavlich, who played his 354th and final game.Pavlich kicked his 700th goal in the first quarter to cap a career that includes six All-Australian selections and six best-and-fairest awards.Pavlich, who says the right time to retire, was pleased the Dockers finished the season on a winning note.I came here as a 17-year-old who had to mature and learn a lot along the way, and the club and myself have really grown up together, Pavlich said. This year has been challenging but I leave with not one regret and I feel like Ive absolutely emptied the tank.Hopefully this performance can springboard us into a strong pre-season.Given Lyon has been accustomed to coaching teams deep into finals at both St Kilda and Fremantle, an early end means theres no rush to make any decision on the future of players. With up to 20 eligible to play in the WAFL finals with Peel Thunder, what lies ahead for them wont be decided immediately - and that includes the likes of Matt de Boer, Tendai Mzungu, Nick Suban, Anthony Morabito and Clancee Pearce.Theres no urgency on anything. Our players come in 12 oclock Monday. Well have 20 that continue on with Peel Thunder and theyre really committed and theyre enthusiastic, Lyon said. The other guys that will start their annual leave, well have them in Monday, Tuesday. Theres protocols that you need to adhere to. Therell be no review. Will Harris Lions Jersey . It seemed to help for a while, but in retrospect, it looks like Tony Dungys coaching tree fueled a short-term spike that has been unsustainable. Here are the top takeaways from our study on the NFLs minority coaching failure:1. Recent stagnation: Twenty-one of 22 first-time head coaches hired from 2012-2016 were white. Thats identical to hiring figures from 1997-2001 and a clear regression from the first nine years of the Rooney Rule (2003-11), when 32 of the 42 first-time head coaches were white. A minority assistant coach said: Remember the old thing [where they said] you cant win with a black quarterback? It is almost like that for the coaches.2. White coaches fill the most upwardly mobile jobs: Eighty of the NFLs 85 current offensive coordinators, QB coaches and offensive quality control coaches are white; 23 of 32 current defensive coordinators are white. The Rooney Rule does not currently apply to coordinator openings, which Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said he would like to see change.?3. Clear path to becomiing a head coach: Ninety-four percent of head coaches hired over the past 20 years had previously served as NFL coordinators, pro head coaches or college head coaches.dddddddddddd. With the majority of coordinator positions occupied by white coaches (as discussed in No. 2), minorities are at an inherent disadvantage for head coaching positions. The result? White coaches have filled 120 of the 141 head coaching vacancies since 1997.4. Missing Dungy: Coaches with ties to Dungy account for 43 percent of minority head coaching hires over the past 20 years, including 39 percent under the Rooney Rule, but Dungys coaching tree stopped growing when he retired following the 2008 season.5. Difference between coaches and players:?Approximately one-third of all NFL coaches are minorities, while two-thirds of players are African-American. One minority coach said you better have some [coaches] who can relate to black players, but only three coblack players, but only three coaching staffs
