Every offseason, Football Outsiders compiles a list of unheralded players who have the chance to become stars or major contributors. We use certain criteria to find the best young players who werent high draft picks and still havent had too much playing time but could be on track to become significant contributors. What would that list look like now, as opposed to in the next offseason? What follows is our list of top 25 prospects, based on players who would qualify right now. Some of these players could play their way off the list as their snap counts rise over the final eight weeks of the season, while others might still be fairly unknown when we get to next years training camp. But all of them are players to watch in the NFL going forward. The criteria:Third-round pick or lower (or undrafted) from the 2014-16 classes500 or fewer offensive or defensive career snaps through Week 10No signed contract extensionAge 26 or youngerIn the past, weve found players such as Arian Foster, Geno Atkins?and Jamaal Charles on our list. Our 2016 offseason list already has graduates including David Johnson, Danielle Hunter, Jordan Hicks?and Grady Jarrett making big impacts.Heres who we like now:1. Jay Ajayi, RB, Miami Dolphins436 offensive snaps | Fifth-round pick (2015)Nothing spells out the roller-coaster nature of NFL life better than Ajayis past two seasons. He went from looking like a first- or second-round pick to dropping out of the first two days of the draft due to a lack of cartilage in his knee. He finally had a chance to be a starter when Lamar Miller left Miami, but the Dolphins immediately blocked him with an aging Arian Foster. When Ajayi pouted about it, he was left behind for Week 1 in Seattle. Then the Dolphins figured out what draftniks knew: Ajayi was actually good. He rolled over the Steelers for 204 yards and two touchdowns in Week 6, and since then, the Dolphins have made him the centerpiece of their offense, rolling to four straight wins as theyve limited Ryan Tannehills snaps behind a bad pass-blocking line. Right now, Ajayi leads the NFL in rushing value,?according to Football Outsiders DVOA and DYAR metrics. The past five weeks, Ajayi is third in the NFL with 21 broken tackles, even though Miami has played only four games in that time. Ajayi is a victory for believing in an individual players talent because despite all the jibber-jabber around his career, his talent won out. Cheap Custom 49ers Jersey49ers Jerseys China . There are some early surprises in the race for the Hart Trophy, but two of the contenders are the leagues biggest stars over the past decade. There are many more players in contention for the awards than just the three that Ive named, and a good or bad week can easily alter the landscape, but through the first 20 or so games of the NHL season, this is how the awards races look to me. Western Sydney coach Tony Popovic hopes the spectacle of Saturdays potentially record-breaking A-League derby will drive the Wanderers to a first-ever round-one win.In four seasons since their inception, the leagues youngest club have never finished their opening fixture as victors. In fact, theyve never won in the second round either, and only once triumphed in the third.Slow starts are not historically an issue for the Wanderers - they have contested every grand final apart from the ill-fated campaign of 2014/15.But pride is also on the line against a potent-looking Sydney FC who, despite their anaemic results last season, have not been defeated by their bitter cross-town rivals in more than two and a half years. At least 60,000 spectators are expected at ANZ Stadium, which would smash the A-League attendance record of 55,436 set in the 2006/07 grand final between Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United.Popovic was optimistic that factor might fuel a result that breaks more than one drought. It would be very nice to win a Sydney derby, he told AAP.It would also be nice to win a round-one game - weve never done that before. It will be different and exciting at Homebush with an amazing crowd.I think well still be slow starters in terms of performance, but wed like to get some more resultss early on as were evolving and getting better.ddddddddddddMaybe the derby is the trigger we need to win a round-one game.Popovic expected his new-look squad would again ease into the season, with the long-term aim of challenging for an elusive championship most recently denied by the Reds.He insisted Mays grand-final defeat had left no psychological hangover, perceiving it as a positive, just another of many motivators for a side having undergone yet another off-season overhaul. But the latest batch of signings, including returned striker Kerem Bulut, Argentine playmaker Nicolas Martinez and Japanese forward Jumpei Kusukami, will meet the Sky Blues without their captain.Nikolai Topor-Stanley will serve a suspension copped in last months 4-1 FFA Cup quarter-final shellacking by Melbourne City.Popovic, who has a stack of central defensive options ready to stand in, said his new faces would be better prepared after the disconcerting loss. That was a very good chance for us to give some of the new players an idea of what the A-League is, against a good opponent at a nice stadium, he said.It was a good measuring stick for those players to release where its at.
