Gareth Southgate marked his first game as England interim manager with a 2-0 win over Malta at Wembley on Saturday. First-half goals from Daniel Sturridge and Dele Alli sealed victory for the Three Lions, as they secured a second successive victory in the World Cup Euro Qualifiers to move to the top of Group F. Daniel Sturridge celebrates with team-mates after scoring the opening goal of the game So how did Southgates side - and indeed the man himself - fare at Wembley? Who performed well and who could have done better? We asked former England captain Terry Butcher to give us his ratings out of 10... Gareth Southgate enjoyed a comfortable debut as interim boss Gareth Southgate - 7 I think it was a good first half for him - his side could have scored six or seven goals quite comfortably in the game and, I dont know what he said at half-time, but England came out in the second half and they didnt fire on all cylinders like they did in the first. Hell be disappointed. Joe Hart had very little to do as England dominated proceedings at Wembley Joe Hart - 7I think he touched the ball about five times and had very little to do, so I would give him a seven out of ten on that. Kyle Walkers performance impressed Terry Butcher Kyle Walker - 8 He got forward well - better than the two left-backs that played - but its just his final ball thats not quite right. He was Englands best attacker from the back four. Gary Cahill wins a header up against Alfred Effiong Gary Cahill - 6.5 He didnt have a lot to do in the game. He was feeding the ball out to his full-backs. He had one good chance but missed and wasnt really tested. John Stones holds off pressure from Alfred Effiong John Stones - 6.5 The centre-halves werent really troubled in the game and he really didnt get forward because it was just too easy for England. Ryan Bertrand was forced off after pulling his hamstring in the first half Ryan Bertrand - 4He got injured in the first half so didnt do enough to get a high mark. Before he went off he didnt really get on the ball and hes not had that many games this season so could have done with a run-out but unfortunately that injury looks like he will be out for some time. Dele Alli scored Englands second goal against Malta Dele Alli - 7.5 He scored a good goal and missed a couple of other really good chances but looks very comfortable in the number 10 role. Jordan Henderson was Terry Butchers star performer Jordan Henderson - 9 He was the stand-out performer today. He made the two goals. A great cross to Sturridge for the first and a great run and layoff to Alli for the second. He was the best passer on the pitch. Wayne Rooney played in a midfield role Wayne Rooney - 7He was disappointing for me. Very deep in midfield, didnt really get forward and just coasted through the game. He tried a couple of passes that didnt come off and thats not his best position, for me. Theo Walcott is fouled by Zach Muscat of Malta Theo Walcott - 6.5 He didnt get into the game as much as Lingard or Sturridge. He had a really good chance in the second half on his wrong foot, missed and then was substituted. Daniel Sturridge scored Englands first goal with a header just before the half-hour mark Daniel Sturridge - 8I was impressed with him. A great touch in the box and a fantastic first goal with a brilliant header and looked lively. It was his type of game today. Jesse Lingard made his England debut in their victory over Malta Jesse Lingard - 7.5I thought it was an impressive debut. He showed good pace, good timing of his runs and should have scored as well. I thought he settled in really well to international football.Substitutes Danny Rose is held back by Bjorn Kristensen Danny Rose - 6.5 He did well when he came on and probably wasnt expecting to play but got forward well, its just the final ball. Marcus Rashford holds off pressure from Alex Muscat Marcus Rashford - 4I can only give him four because he really didnt get into the game as much. He played on the left, he played on the right but didnt play through the middle which is probably his best position. It was good to see him involved. Jamie Vardy came on for Daniel Sturridge in the 74th minute Jamie Vardy - 4He hardly touched the ball. Never really got into positions that he does for Leicester. It wasnt really his type of game tonight. Seven different Stars scored in a 7-3 victory over the Nashville Predators. Tyler Seguin or Jamie Benn was not among them. Each player had an assist. Colton Sceviour, Trevor Daley and Ryan Garbutt each had a goal and an assist. Alex Goligoski had three assists, tying his career high. Going into the game, Seguin had 75 points and Benn 69. Dallas third-highest scorer was Goligoski, with 33. Vernon Fiddler, whose first-period goal was his fifth this season, said: "Its nice to get some depth scoring. At the end of the day, weve got to continue to do that. The big guns need some help with that, and it takes a little bit of pressure off of them." Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen allowed three goals on 28 shots. Pekka Rinne had 22 saves. After Nashville pulled within 5-3 in the third period on Eric Nystroms goal, Valeri Nichushkin and Cody Eakin scored 9 seconds apart for a 7-3 edge. Nichushkins unassisted goal went off Predators defenceman Shea Webers stick. "We tipped two in our own net," Weber said. "They got one off the skate, and then they scored off the rush. They got a little bit of everything, and it just wasnt good enough for us." Thats why Nashville coach Barry Trotz didnt consider pulling Rinne. "Not really, even when they got six and seven. Six and seven were deflected. There was nothing you could do about it." Stars coach Lindy Ruff, who preaches putting pucks on the net, was pleased about the four goals that deflected off teammates sticks or bodies. "We got some good breaks. We had a couple put in by their defencemen. We got enough pucks going to the net, and got rewarded for it." Goals by Garbutt and Fiddler gave the Stars a 2-0 lead after one period. Sceviour, Alex Chiasson and Daley scored in the second period that ended with a 5-2 advantage for Dallas. The Predators Patric Hornqvist and Michael Del Zotto also scored in the second. The victory improved Dallas playoff hopes. The Stars have 81 points -- three behind Phoenix, which has the Western Conferences last playoff position. The Stars have nine games remaining, including a game Saturday at St. Louis. Phoenix has eight to play. The game started well for the Stars against Nashville, which was coming off a 6-1 win over Buffalo on Thursday.dddddddddddd "They looked fresh," Trotz said. "They jumped on us. I dont know how many pucks we just got it to the red line and just turned it over and they transitioned on us, and its hard to play that way. Youre spending your energy in the wrong area." Garbutt gave Dallas a 1-0 lead when he tipped Antoine Roussels pass from the right corner past Rinne. The Stars took a 2-0 lead on a 2-on-1 rush at 14:05 of the first. As a defender slid to the ice attempting to block a shot, Sceviour passed across to Fiddler on the right side, and he drilled a snap shot into the net. Dallas outshot the Predators 9-5 in the first period. Nashvilles best chance to score came on the only shot during the power play, when Craig Smiths shot from the top of the left circle went off Lehtonens pads. Goligoski and Daley, Fridays starting defensive pair, each finished with plus-5 ratings. Ruff said: "Thats a good night when youre plus-5 on the score sheet. I think youve seen by ice times these last 30-40 games how much we think of that pair and how much difference they can make. They made some real good plays for us."
