Each fantasy football decision in Week 13 seems to have additional pressure attached. After all, a win or a loss this week may ultimately determine your playoff destiny. Maybe a win puts you in or earns you a bye. Lose, and you could be already looking ahead to 2017.A big key is to not put too much additional pressure on yourself. Dont overthink things because the stakes seem to be raised this week. Make a firm decision, stick with it, and let your players do the rest. If your choices are well-researched and informed, you give yourself the best opportunity to win. Dont drive yourself crazy, set the best possible lineup and youll know you did all you can to keep your title hopes alive.KAEPERNICK RISINGSan Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick has two touchdown passes in three of his past four games, and has totaled double-figure fantasy rushing totals in two of those outings. He rushed for 113 yards last week and 55 yards with a score in Week 10. He has the look of a QB1 heading into the Week 13 matchup with the Bears. Kaepernick is always a threat to boost his totals with his rushing prowess, and Chicago allows 25.9 fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers. Kaepernick is a productive dual threat with a lot of statistical promise.PUT SMALLWOOD IN AGAINEagles rookie Wendell Smallwood deserves another opportunity to be in your lineup. Ryan Mathews is still battling a knee injury and the Bengals allow 120.5 yards rushing per game, fifth-most in the NFL. He carried nine times for 37 yards last week but should see more work against the Bengals, likely serving as Philadelphias primary ball carrier.AFTER COOKS SHUTOUT?Wide receiver Brandin Cooks was somehow shut out last week while the Saints scored 49 points against the Rams. Look for Drew Brees to make a strong effort to get him the ball in what could be a shootout with the Lions. Last weeks zero should lead to the Saints attempting heartily to get him back into the offensive flow. Start Cook with confidence this week.CHARGERS WIDEOUTSThe Chargers are dealing with key injuries at wide receiver. Tyrell Williams has a labrum problem, and Travis Benjamin has yet to show he is adequately recovered from a knee injury. Look for Dontrelle Inman to be a frequent target for Philip Rivers this week. He caught six passes for 119 yards last week and should certainly build on that momentum against Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers pass defense is mediocre, Rivers should throw frequently and Inman will be his top target. Start him as your third fantasy wide receiver.WILSON REPEATChicagos Marquess Wilson was the pickup of the week after catching eight passes for 125 yards and a TD against the Titans. The 49ers allow 28.0 FFPG to opposing wide receivers, the most of any NFL team. Wilson should stay in your lineup this week as a third wide receiver or flex. New starter Matt Barkley clearly identified Wilson as his favorite target and the Bears should continue to move the ball well enough vs. San Francisco this week. Even if they run often with Jordan Howard, Wilson should remain the top pass-catching option when Chicago throws the ball.WARE VS. OAKLANDSpencer Ware has not rushed for more than 80 yards or ran for a score since Week 6. That was when he last faced Oakland, when he had 131 yards and a TD. Ware gets the Falcons this week, and you should start him again despite a recent run of mostly mediocre outings. Kansas City will need to establish the ground game to try to keep a potent Raiders offense off the field as much as possible. Oakland has allowed 116.9 yards rushing per game, seventh-most among NFL teams, with a dozen rushing scores.STREAMING OPTIONSThere are some nifty streaming (one-week play) options if you a desperate for help at tight end. Consider New Orleans Coby Fleener, as the Lions allow a league-high 11.4 FFPG to the position. Zach Ertz is in play against the Bengals, who yield 10.2 FFPG to TEs, fourth-most in the league. C.J. Fiedorowicz is a solid start. He has been a sometimes pleasant surprise this season, and the Packers allow 9.6 FFPG to the position. Cameron Brate has considerable TD potential against the Raiders.DEFENSESIts not easy to find the right defense to utilize this week, but consider the Packers, who bounced back against the Eagles last week, and now face the Texans. Brock Osweiler has 13 interceptions, the second-highest total in the NFL. Against Philly, the Packers dominated time of possession and brought significant pass pressure against Carson Wentz. They generated four sacks and could force Osweiler into some mistakes this week. The Panthers have 33 sacks (third in the NFL) and should register a few more at Seattle. San Diego is an underrated unit that could force some turnovers at home against Tampa Bay. The Chargers lead the NFL with 14 interceptions. Miami is a solid play at Baltimore to at least keep the score down. The Bears and 49ers are both mistake-prone and oppose each other.---This column was provided to The Associated Press by the Fantasy Sports Network, http://FNTSY.comWholesale Air Max 97 . After Major League Baseball suspended New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez for 211 games on Monday, he declared he would appeal his punishment. That said, heres your breakdown on the performance-enhanced road ahead. On what basis did Major League Baseball suspend A-Rod? Heres MLBs statement on the suspension: "Rodriguezs discipline under the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program is based on his use and possession of numerous forms of prohibited performance-enhancing substances, including Testosterone and human growth hormone, over the course of multiple years. Rodriguezs discipline under the Basic Agreement is for attempting to cover up his violations of the Program by engaging in a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate the Office of the Commissioners investigation." So this means that baseball relied on two different agreements when suspending A-Rod. The first is the Drug Policy, which provides that a player can be suspended if he tests positive for PEDs (didnt happen here) or if there is evidence he used PEDs (happened here). Beyond the Drug Policy, MLB suspended A-Rod under its Basic Agreement, which provides that a player may be disciplined for conduct that is detrimental or prejudicial to the best interests of baseball. So the basis for the suspension has a couple of prongs to it. When will the appeal be heard? According to the Drug Policy, the whole appeal process, including the decision, should take about a month. Thats how it generally goes down. But not here. In situations where you have a positive drug test being appealed, the appeal can be disposed of in 30 days or so. Those types of cases can be more or less straightforward. However, with A-Rod, there was no positive drug test. Rather, MLB based its suspension on volumes and volumes of documentary evidence, like text messages, emails, and testimony in the form of affidavits (or sworn statements). Before A-Rods lawyers are ready to appear before the arbitrator, they will carefully review all the evidence and consider its reliability and truth. They will do this evidentiary piece by evidentiary piece. That takes a lot of time. So expect the appeal to be heard after the season – maybe in October or November. So later rather than sooner. Since A-Rod can play pending his appeal, he will play the rest of the season and into the playoffs if the Yankees make it that far. This assumes he doesnt get hurt or test positive. Who is the arbitrator? His name is Fredric Horowitz, hes 64 years old and specializes in labour and employment arbitration. After MLB fired arbitrator Shyam Das when he overturned Ryan Brauns suspension, Horowitz was hired to replace him and handle these types of grievances. Hes been a full time arbitrator since 1988. If you want to learn more about him (and have nothing better to do), click here to read his CV. So let me get this straight: MLB or the Union can fire Horowitz if either dont like his ruling? Yep. That seems like a lot of pressure? Theyre used to it. How does the arbitration hearing work? Its a bit like a mini trial. Both sides present their evidence and call witnesses. It is, however, lesss formal than a trial.dddddddddddd What type of power does the arbitrator have? The arbitrators ruling will be binding on the parties. So whatever he decides, the parties have no choice but to follow it. Horowitz has the discretion to change the suspension. He may, for example, lower the suspension to 150 games. He also has the power to completely vacate or overturn the suspension. Hes powerful. What will A-Rod argue at the appeal? Ultimately, A-Rod will focus more on the length of the suspension and less on the merit and substance of the suspension. He will say that the collectively bargained Drug Policy provides for a 50 game suspension for a first time offender like him, and as a result his 211 game suspension is not only excessive and heavy-handed, but also not in keeping with the Drug Policy. The Drug Policy calls for a specific punishment for a first timer, and that punishment was ignored in favour of a far longer suspension. Also expect A-Rod to go after Boschs credibility. The founder of Biogenesis has allegedly engaged in criminal activity. As well, Bosch only cooperated with the league after it sued him. So A-Rod may question Boschs motives, and by extension the reliability of his evidence. So from A-Rods standpoint, Bosch is flawed and vulnerable to attack. Same thing for Porter Fisher, the Biogenesis investor who blew this case wide open. What will MLB argue? The league will declare that A-Rods suspension, while harsh, is completely warranted. MLB will argue that A-Rod has engaged in an extensive and continuous pattern of PED use since at least 2010. He also has a long standing relationship with Bosch that may date back to 2009. MLB may also allege that A-Rod obstructed its investigation, tampered with witnesses and generally interfered with its attempt to get to the truth. He may have also recruited players to Biogenesis. Ultimately, his pervasive and wide ranging pattern of wrongdoings is not only contrary to the Drug Policy, but also the MLBs Basic Agreement, which allows baseball to discipline a player for conduct detrimental to the game. So given these various factors, A-Rods suspension is reasonable. Who will win on appeal? Dont know. The evidence will rule the day, and without having the benefit of reviewing it, we cant know how this will unfold. The past may suggest we will see a reduction in the length of the suspension (maybe to 150 games), but thats just a guess. If the evidence is strong, Horowitz will leave the suspension as is. What if A-Rod doesnt like the arbitrators ruling? If A-Rod is dissatisfied with the arbitrators decision, he could take his case to court. Generally, courts dont like interfering with the decision of arbitrators since arbitrators are specialized and know their area pretty well. So unless the decision is really bad, a court may just tell A-Rod to live with it. However, merit of an appeal aside, if A-Rod heads to court, this case could drag on for years. He has threatened to fight this and dig in, so court is possible. Well, thats not fun. No its not. None of this is.
