CALGARY, Alberta -- Marian Hossa has been in the NHL long enough to knows how to make a goal out of seemingly nothing.Hossas team-leading 10th goal of the season with 2:23 left in the third period lifted the Chicago Blackhawks to a 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on Friday night.Chad Johnson threw up his glove to stop a hard shot from Artemi Panarin but the puck went off the top of his glove and high in the air. It ended up landing behind him where Hossa got his stick on it for his 80th game-winning goal.I dont think the goalie knew exactly where the puck was and the defender tried to put his stick out, Hossa said. I tried to hook on his stick so he doesnt touch the puck and the puck just bounced pretty much close to the goal line and I just tried to put it underneath me in the net.As the puck trickled over the line, Hossa was in the crease and in the process of falling on the Flames goaltender.Calgary coach Glen Gulutzan said he would have challenged for goaltender interference but he did not have a timeout left, having used it earlier in the period.Hossa, who has five goals in his last six games, is tied for fourth in the NHL in goals behind Patrik Laine (12), Sidney Crosby (11) and Michael Grabner (11).I just try to put the puck at the net right now, Hossa said. When you feel like the pucks going in for you, you just try to be around the net or shoot pucks to the net and try to make plays. Its nothing Chicago coach Joel Quenneville hasnt seen before.Hes scored some goals from right around that net here to get us a point or two and tonights a good illustration of how important hes been for us, he said.Ryan Hartman and Brent Seabrook also scored for Chicago, which has points in 12 of its last 13 (10-1-2) games. Corey Crawford stopped 28 shots.Sam Bennett and Sean Monahan scored for Calgary, and Johnson had 21 savesThese ones are tough games. I thought we played well, Gulutzan said. We needed a little bit more out of our special teams, but overall, we played a good game, its just unfortunate what happened.Down 1-0 after the first period, Calgary took the lead early in the second with two goals 3:30 apart from its new-look top line. With Johnny Gaudreau sidelined six weeks with a broken finger, Bennett has been inserted into his spot on left wing with Monahan and Troy Brouwer.Bennett jammed a loose puck past Corey Crawford at 3:33 from a scramble in the crease that was all set up by a dangerous rush from defenseman TJ Brodie. On their next shift, Monahan was credited with his fifth goal when his centering pass deflected in off the skate of Blackhawks defenseman Gustav Forsling at 7:03.Chicago tied it with about 5 1/2 minutes left in the second when Seabrook blasted a slap shot past Johnson, who was screened by Giordano. It was a power-play goal for Chicago and came on the Blackhawks first man advantage of the night. Its the same old story with special teams. Weve got to be better. If we get one on the power play, it might be a different outcome, said Bennett. Its tough to swallow right now, especially when we played a good game like we did tonight.Special teams once again let down the Flames. Their 30th ranked power play failed to score on five chances against the 30th ranked Chicago penalty kill -- while the 28th ranked penalty kill gave up one goal on one chance. The Blackhawks nearly scored in the opening minute of the first period but video review showed that Mark Giordano pulled the puck off the goal-line before it bounced past a sprawled Johnson.Hartman then gave Chicago the 1-0 lead at 7:42 when he got behind Dennis Wideman, took a perfect breakaway pass from Artem Anisimov, and while fending off the Flames defenseman, fired a shot inside the goal post.Game notesFlames LW Kris Versteeg (groin) took part in morning skate and is nearing a return. Hes missed seven games ... Calgary has gone 10 games without a goal from a defenseman. ... Chicago LW Tyler Motte (lower body) missed his fifth game, but coach Joel Quenneville says hes a possibility to play Saturday.UP NEXTBlackhawks: At Vancouver on Saturday night in the third game of a seven-game trip.Flames: At Detroit on Saturday night in the opener of a six-game trip.Wholesale Warriors Jerseys .J. -- Marty Brodeur beat the Pittsburgh Penguins yet again. Despite two straight losses, the Black Knights still have a slim chance to play in a bowl game for only the second time since 1996.Theres an opportunity out there if we can get a victory this Saturday, coach Jeff Monken said. Weve got to get one this weekend if were going to have any hope.Army (5-5) hosts FCS foe Morgan State (2-7) on Senior Day at Michie Stadium, a special moment for a class thats helped the program move forward in three seasons under Monken.I, as the head coach, have leaned on those guys for leadership in the locker room, and to build the culture that it takes to win, Monken said. Im confident that culture is being built and we are headed in the right direction.Army allowed a season-high 44 points in a loss to Notre Dame last week in San Antonio at The Alamodome. The triple option stalled, held to only 229 yards, but the Black Knights remain second in the nation in rushing with an average of 311 yards per contest. The loss followed a 31-12 setback at home the previous week against service academy rival Air Force . The triple option was held to a season-low 144 yards on 40 carries in that game. The third try to reach six wins comes against a struggling Morgan State team thats near the bottom of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Bears have lost five straight. The big thing for us is weve got to clean up our own mistakes, MSU interim head coach Fred Farrier said. Were just making too many mistakes at critical points. That was never more apparent than in last weeks 22-21 loss at Florida A&M. Morgan State led 21-9 after Chris Andrews scored on a four-yard run late in the third quarter. Then Andrews lost a fumble early in the fourth quarter that FAMU converted into a touchdown, the Bears never got their offense going again, and the game slipped away. Alex Raya also missed field goals of 36 and 35 yards for MSU.Its another one of those situations where youre shooting yourself in the foot, Farrier said.Other things to know when Army hossts Morgan State on Senior Day at Michie Stadium:PRESSURE TIME: The Black Knights need a win to remain in the bowl discussion.dddddddddddd Armys victory over FCS foe Lafayette a month ago does not count toward bowl eligibility victories. Just like a year ago, some of the 80 bowl slots available likely will be filled with five-win teams. Those teams are selected according to their latest Academic Progress Rate, and Army sits fourth on that list, behind Duke, Northwestern, and Vanderbilt. A year ago, three five-win teams played in a bowl game.ROAD WOES: Morgan State has yet to win on the road this season. The Bears also lost 62-0 at Marshall, 22-12 at Hampton, and 27-14 at Norfolk State. MSUs last win away from Hughes Stadium was on Oct. 3, 2015, when the Bears beat Delaware State 26-6 in Dover.RED ZONE SPUTTERS: Morgan State has scored just 16 times in 28 trips inside its opponents 20-yard line to rank last in the MEAC. Twelve of the 16 scores have been TDs, and the Bears also have had four turnovers (three fumbles and an interception) and have converted only four of 10 field goals in the red zone.ROOKIE TIME: Freshman QB DeAndre Harris is expected to start for MSU. Harris also started last week and completed just two of six passes for 12 yards and threw one interception before being replaced by Andrews in the second quarter. The Bears managed only 11 first downs in the game.SENIOR SWAN SONG: Linebackers Andrew King and Jeremy Timpf lead a contingent of 17 seniors who will play their final game at Michie Stadium. Monken marvels at the contributions of what he considers a special class. This group of guys is what you hope for when you talk about leaders, Monken said. They lead by example. They have a great attitude. They believe theyre the guys that turned it around.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25---Follow Kekis at www.twitter.com/Greek1947 ' ' '
